A kit bag essential. The classic 35mm is the perfect portrait lens as well as being ideal for a whole range of other disciplines, and here’s why. Sigma’s 35mm f2 DG DN I C Lens is compact and lightweight, making it super-portable for any kit bag and its all-metal design that’s reminiscent of Sigma’s Cine lens lineup, gives it a professional and well-thought-through feel. The lens construction and optical design produces exceptional image quality and this is coupled with a wide, bright and fast maximum F2 aperture. This aperture not only helps with low-light shooting conditions but also enables precise depth-of-field control. In addition, the aperture will also capture attractive, circular bokeh in out-of-focus areas.
With a wide maximum F2 aperture, Sigma needed a lens structure that features the highest level of optical performance throughout the entire aperture range. The lens sees 10 glass elements in 9 groups, which includes 1 SLD element and 3 aspherical elements. The SLD element was used to correct axial chromatic aberrations, which were a concern for Sigma. Equally, the use and specific placement of the high-refractive-index elements provides effective correction of various other types of aberration.
Three high-precision glass-moulded aspherical lenses are used to correct spherical aberration and field curvature. Finally, the specific lens design provides the correct of sagittal coma aberrations, which enables the capture of details needed for night-sky photography. It may seem like a lot, but they’ve managed to design this lens to produce the best possible image whilst keeping the amount of glass used to a minimum and as a result, maintain a low weight.
