Details

The FA 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW Lens from Pentax is a standard length prime lens with a bright maximum aperture that enables accurate low-light shooting as well as providing a wide range of depth of field control. While designed for full-frame Pentax K-mount cameras, the lens can be used on APS-C format cameras where it provides a 76.5mm focal length.

Aero Bright Coating II and HD Coating on the 15 lens elements reduces flare and ghosting even when shooting in harsh lighting, and a front element SP Coating repels water and fingerprints from affecting the front of your lens. Autofocus is powered by Pentax's Ultrasonic Motor SDM, providing fast and accurate focus while shooting. Additionally, the rounded 9-blade diaphragm produces smooth bokeh for portraits or other types of shots. This lens is also weather sealed, ensuring consistent performance during adverse outdoor shooting conditions.

High-performance, next generation lens with a large F1.4 maximum aperture.

With a large f1.4 maximum aperture this lens has been developed as a new-generation member of the high-performance Star Series. The Star Series is a lineup which is designed to deliver extra-clear, high-contrast images with edge-to-edge sharpness by compensating various aberrations to a minimum. With is wide f1.4 aperture this lens creates fantastic bokeh, seen with the likes of the Canon L Series lens, which is very impressive.

State-of-the-art optical technology.

Pentax have created this lens with there start of the art Aero Bright Coating II, which is a lens coating that features nanotechnology providing a super-low refractive film fabrication process (In other words it reduces surface glare/reflections/ghosting). Since it minimizes distortion even at a focusing distance of approximately one meter, it produces crisp, distortion-free images over the entire focusing range, from the minimum focusing distance to infinity.

Dustproof, weather-resistant construction.

The one thing you can relay on, is that Pentax will always release weather resistant/dust proof lenses and this lens is no exception. This lens features a dependable dustproof, weather-resistant structure with eight special seals to prevent the intrusion of water and dust into the lens interior. Giving you the confidence to shoot in all weather conditions, especially when you pair it with a Pentax K Series Camera will you have a kit that performs superbly in demanding shooting settings, even in rain or mist, or at locations prone to water splashes or spray.

Newly developed ring-type ultrasonic motor SDM

For those who don't know what SDM means, it's Supersonic Direct-drive Motor. Now the SDM is Pentax high regarding autofocusing motors built into a selected range of high-performance lenses. However, in this instance, this lens has received an update to the SDM system by having a new ring-type place within the motors. Which Pentax states; "Generates as much as 7.5 times the torque of the conventional SDM installed in existing lenses. Thanks to this enormous driving power, the lens assures a smooth, high-speed shift of the heavy, multi-element rear lens group during focusing operation." Sounds impressive!
